Merchandise with the Mid-Atlantic, West and Australia logos are big sellers at the Little League gift shop locations around the world series complex, its manager says.
“We’re sold out of Mid-Atlantic hats,” Dustin Solomon said Thursday. The supply of Mid-Atlantic shirts that carried the Newark, Del., name was exhausted but he said he got more.
He also had to reorder shirts containing the Chula Vista, Calif., Sammamish, Wash., Westport, Conn., Australia and Mexico names because the initial allotment of more than 2,000 of each team were sold, he said.
The 700 Australia trading pins are gone as are Northwest hats that do not contain the Sammamish name, Solomon said. Hats cannot be re-ordered because the new supply would not arrive in time, he said.
A popular item this year is the “I Won’t Cheat” patches that have been on the left sleeve of series uniforms since 2008, said Liz Dilullo Brown, vice president of marketing and strategic partnerships. I Won’t Cheat is a foundation started by former Major Leaguer Dale Murphy to encourage youngsters to take a pledge not to cheat or use steroids.
Since people were buying these patches in quantity, Brown speculates they were teams back home.
Also a hot item this year, according to Solomon, are baseballs containing the world series logo. Nearly 3,000 have been sold, he said.
Saturday shirts will be available with the names of the teams playing for the U.S. and international championships, Brown said. Shirts containing the names of the two teams in the world championship game will be available Sunday, she said. A couple thousand of each shirt will be ordered and based on past experience, they likely all will be sold, she said.
