Public Safety’s Closing Remarks

Author:Yvonne Chen ComeFrom:njitvector.com Date:2014/5/5 22:14:47 Hits:1478
Closing remarks to a successful academic year

The NJIT Public Safety Department would first like to thank the community for all their support this year. Various faculty and student organizations have attended meet and greets, visited community-policing events and even volunteered during Cops in Crosswalks. Eighteen student volunteers attended and assisted with last Wednesday’s Cops in Crosswalks initiative, with a turnout of at least fifteen during previous iterations of the event.

Next year, Public Safety plans to introduce a new initiative: challenge coins. Currently, Public Safety officers carry these around as a reminder of their commitment, their “challenge,” to better themselves and the community through dedicated service to safety.

Starting next academic year, Public Safety would like to hold biannual ceremonies to recognize members of the NJIT community who uphold these same standards. Individuals who meet certain service requirements will be honored with challenge coins. Early next semester, Public Safety will send out a survey for the community to collectively design their coin. One face of the coin will be emblazoned with the Public Safety insignia. On the other face, a variety of colors, images, and mottos are possible – it is up to the community to come up with a design that best represents NJIT.
